What's the name of this city? If you are planning to visit or have just arrived you may be excused for the confusion - and we'll try to clear it up for you now:
In Chinese the name is 哈尔滨. In Pinyin it is written as "ha-er-bin". In standard English it's Harbin. We've chose to go with the pinyin spelling as it's closer to it's spoken sound in Chinese - but it really doesn't matter what you call it!

Have you noticed that Google maps now offer English and pinyin on their map of Harbin?
 This is a great improvement and incredibly useful for those of us who don't read Chinese. All the street names and listed businesses and places of interest are now in English or pinyin.
 You can check it out for yourself by clicking on the Harbin Map link on the left-side Resources menu. We are also in the process of updating the business directory, reviews and local attractions sections with accurate map links.
It's early days for the Haerbinger Magazine and Website but we hope you'll join in with the community.
